Rajiv Thakur Explains Why He Isn’t Part of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3

Actor and comedian Kapil Sharma’s much-loved comedy series The Great Indian Kapil Show made its return with Season 3 in June, bringing back familiar faces like Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, and Sunil Grover. But fans were quick to notice that Rajiv Thakur was missing from the lineup.

In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, Rajiv finally addressed the reason behind his absence. After weeks of speculation and fan questions, the comedian revealed what really happened and why he isn’t part of the new season.

Rajiv Thakur Opens Up About His Absence From The Great Indian Kapil Show

In a candid moment, Rajiv Thakur shared that he’s recently returned to stand-up comedy, thanks to a push from fellow comedian Samay Raina. After Samay encouraged him to upload one of his sets on YouTube, the video received a strong response, reigniting Rajiv’s passion for solo performances.

However, when asked if his focus on stand-up was the reason behind his absence from The Great Indian Kapil Show, Rajiv didn’t hold back. With his trademark honesty, he said, “Itne bade show se koi rest nahi leta, obviously aapko nikala gaya hoga.”

His statement made it clear he didn’t voluntarily step away from the show, but was likely dropped from the cast, a fact he acknowledged with both humour and grace.

After his bold remark about being removed from The Great Indian Kapil Show, Rajiv Thakur lightened the mood, laughing it off and saying, “Just kidding.” He went on to explain the real reason behind his absence a clash in schedules and tight episode formats.

“Maybe some dates didn’t match because they were calling me in between,” he said. “I did one episode, but then I didn’t have dates for the next. For me, once I make a commitment, I want to stick to it.”

Rajiv also highlighted the show’s format challenges, explaining that each episode runs for just 55 minutes, making screen time extremely limited. “They already have Kiku, Krushna, and the guest doing so much in that, there’s very little space left for you,” he added, pointing out the genuine constraints that sometimes force tough choices.

While Rajiv Thakur was a regular face in Season 1 and 2 of The Great Indian Kapil Show, fans were quick to notice his absence from the latest season. Season 3 has brought some fresh changes most notably, the return of Navjot Singh Sidhu, who now joins Archana Puran Singh on the judge’s panel.

Adding to the new twist, the show has introduced a unique segment where fans get a chance to perform live on stage, bringing a whole new level of interaction to the comedy format.

The premiere episode featured none other than Salman Khan, and the next episode promises more buzz as Parineeti Chopra and her husband, politician Raghav Chadha, are set to appear together.
